Mesa County, Colorado — Argentine Tradition
Every Dulce Aida alfajor starts with a family recipe from Argentina — dulce de leche, seasonal fruit confitures, and a final touch of edible gold dust. A small workshop in the Colorado mountains, with a heart in Buenos Aires.
From Al-Andalus to the Andes
The word "alfajor" comes from the Arabic al-hasw, meaning "the filling." Moorish rule brought sweets stuffed with honey, nuts, and spices to the Iberian Peninsula.
Spanish colonization carried the tradition of the filled sweet to South America, where each region adapted it with its own ingredients — corn, carob, and later, cane sugar.
Spanish immigrants opened the first alfajor workshops in Argentina. Gradually, the dense original dough gave way to a lighter cookie.
Dulce de leche became the defining filling of the Argentine alfajor. Dipped in chocolate or dusted with coconut, it grew into a national symbol.
With family roots in Argentina and fruit grown on Colorado's Western Slope, every Dulce Aida alfajor honors that heritage — with blueberry and almond confiture, and a final touch of edible gold dust.
